Reflection 2008/3/26

There are many kinds of software in the market. Do you know which one is good or bad? I must know how to choose a good software and it is good for me to learn. Therefore, I have learned criteria for CALL task appropriateness in the class today.


When I choose a material, I need to think about language learning potential, learner fit, meaning focus, authenticity, positive impact, and practicality or I need to know how to perform the criteria. I can evaluate if these software have interaction-activities, beneficial focus on form, practice, pronunciation, or these can help students or not. I think these six criteria are useful. On the one hand, I am able to utilize this method in my future. On the other hand, I will know which material or software is good for me to use. In short, I expect next course.

第一次上翁老師的課,不知道老師所教的能不能夠適應,在一堂課下來,發現老師上課很有條理,而且每個步驟講的很詳細,操作的很完整,每到一個階段就會停下來等我們做好,他也會看每位同學都有跟上才開始下一個步驟,非常有條理耐心

老師在這堂課是教我們如何錄音,並且把錄音檔縮小,老師介紹一個軟體叫Audacity,這個軟體是專門錄音的,而且裡面的功能有很多,在老師講解以及示範操作之後,我們便開始學習使用軟體,雖然老師教的是很基本的錄音,但卻對我幫助很大,因為在這堂課的期末作業中,必須製作教學網站,我就能利用錄音的方式,把自己的唸的文章句子錄起來並放在網站上提供學生學習,非常有用,另外這個軟體有很多功用,能夠使用效果把錄音的部分修改,不好的地方可以剪下,也可以去除雜音,音量放大等等,很多用處,還有教我們如何把錄音黨縮小,通常錄音黨的檔案都很大,放在網路上站空間,因此可以使用轉換mp3的方式讓檔案縮小,種種功能助益很大

Reflection 2008/3/12

Until now, I feel computer is a good tool for me to learn language. No matter communication, writing, and listening, it helps me a lot. I can utilize websites to enhance the comprehension. If I know the good websites, I also can participate in online chat to communicate for different people because everyone has different filed. Maybe we can share some information to each other. Besides, we also can write articles and put it on the websites. Everyone will give some suggestions.

I look forward to making the vedio in this semester. I am happy I can make my own websites. On the one hand, I am able to put information that I want to teach students. On the other hand, I can learn how to make a websites which students will get knowledge really.

1. What are the three phrases of CALL? What role do computers play in each phrase? Please write down the classification of the use of computer technologies in language learning and teaching : a metaphorical approach by Warschauer.

(1) Three phrases of the CALL are Behaviorist CALL, Communicative CALL and Integrative CALL. (2) Behaviorist CALL: Drill and practice courseware is based on the model of computeras tutor. The computer serves as a vehicle for delivering instructional materials to the student. Communicative CALL: The computer is as a tool. First, there were a variety of programs to provide skill practice, but in a non-drill format. Another CALL model used for communicative activities involves the computer as stimulus. In this case, the purpose of the CALL activityis not so much to have students discover the right answer, but rather tostimulate students' discussion, writing, or critical thinking. The third model of computers in communicative CALL involves thecomputeras tool, or, as sometimescalled, the computer as workhorse. Integrative CALL: It based on two important technological developments of the last decade--multimedia computers and the Internet. The computer is as a tour like paced reading, text construction and language games.

He worte many books which attracted second and foreign language teachers and researchers over around the world. His books supplies many information about technology.


3.On page 18, the author mentions the use of online chat in a NASA space project to enhance communication skills. I think the possibilities of using technology to promote collaborative learning and develop communities of learners is 100%. Technology is developing well nowadays. If we can using technology to learn, we are able to understand quickly. Besides, the website supplies many information for learners to use collaboratively. If the teacher gives students the websites, she/he can ask students to read the stories. They can discuss each other where they don't know during the class or if they read the stories themselves, some words have comments. It is very convenient. It is important that each student can do some activities online. Maybe they can divide into a pair of students or groups, they are able to communicate together. Not only can they get information from others, but also they can enhance communication skills. Therefore, this is a good way for teacher to teach students.

Reflection 2008/3/5

Today, I learned how to utilize search engine to find out the right answer. First, I must know
what question I want to know. Then I need to key in the keyword on the search engine. If I
key in the correct keyword, I can search the answer right away. I think this method is good for
me to search information on the Internet. Only I know the steps, searching information is easy
and convenient for me. Besides, it is also useful to my project. Project is academic, so I need to
find some professional articles to read. Thus, I can type "pdf" in front of the keyword. Then,
there are many information whcih I really need. All in all, I am happy I could learn this way.
After teacher teaches the computer assisted language learning, I will use Communicative Call
to teach students because students can helpe each other and they will have the authentic
audiences to learn. It is important for beginning learners. If they have materials to facilitate
them, they can learn the second language quickly. They also can creat new information by
materials.
